About

The Grievous Angel is an independent print journal dedicated to the art of hospitality.

Influenced by years of work in the service industry, the writings of Simone Weil and Emmanuel Levinas, and the Cosmic Americana of Gram Parsons, we are looking for artists and writers who understand the urgent need for connection: to one another, to our work, and to our environment.

Fiction, non-fiction, poetry, and art that highlights the power of hospitality (versus hostility) and communicates the need for empathy in a time of empire decline will find its natural home here.

Stories and images of work, leisure, and resistance are especially of interest. We will politely decline material that is overly preachy or sloganized.
