CALL FOR SUBMISSIONS — THE GRIEVOUS ANGEL (VOLUME 1 ISSUE 1) ISSN: 3143-0929
The Grievous Angel is an independent imprint dedicated to hospitality, music, and resistance.
Informed by the work of Simone Weil and Emmanuel Levinas, we understand the need for roots in order to protect a sense of connection to our work, our community, and our environment.
The paradoxical nature of comfort as a prison heightens our understanding of hospitality, and offers guidance on how to treat the other in a time of state terror and authoritarianism.
We’re looking for work that emphasizes the many-faceted nature of hospitality and advocacy in every form. Of special interest are pieces that recognize empathy as resistance in a time of empire decline.
We are seeking submissions of fiction, nonfiction, and poetry for the inaugural issue of The Grievous Angel.
· Prose: up to ~5,000 words
· Poetry: 5-7 poems
· Book reviews: 1,000 words or less
· Relevant interviews
· Excerpts of longer works are welcome if they stand alone
· Simultaneous submissions are allowed (please notify us if accepted elsewhere)
· Previously published work is welcome, provided you retain reprint rights
· Please include a brief bio and the best way to get in touch with you
We welcome personal stories of work, leisure, resistance, and survival. Some theory is fine but a little goes a long way. Our preference leans towards praxis and we will politely decline material that is preachy or overtly sloganized.
