CALL FOR SUBMISSIONS — THE GRIEVOUS ANGEL (VOLUME 1 ISSUE 1) ISSN: 3143-0929
The Grievous Angel is an independent print journal dedicated to the art of hospitality.
Influenced by years of work in the service industry, the writings of Simone Weil and Emmanuel Levinas, and the Cosmic Americana of Gram Parsons, we are looking for artists and writers who understand the urgent need for connection: to one another, to our work, and to our environment.
The paradoxical nature of comfort as a prison heightens our understanding of hospitality, and offers guidance on how to treat the other in a time of state terror and authoritarianism.
Work that highlights the power of hospitality (versus hostility) and communicates the need for empathy in a time of empire decline will find its natural home here.
We are seeking submissions of fiction, nonfiction, art, and photography for the inaugural issue of The Grievous Angel.
· Prose: up to ~5,000 words

· Simultaneous submissions are allowed (please notify us if accepted elsewhere)
· Previously published work is welcome, provided you retain reprint rights
· Please include a brief bio and the best way to get in touch with you
Some theory is fine but a little goes a long way. Our preference leans towards praxis and we will politely decline material that is preachy or overtly sloganized.
